How To Love

Twenty-seven years ago today, my parents were married. Though it would be another 3 years before I would come along (and make their lives infinity times better) they had already set in motion one of the greatest things they could ever teach me.

How to love.

If I didn’t know what healthy, functional, supportive love looked like, I wouldn’t be able to aspire to have it for myself.

I thank them for showing me.

It’s a weird thing when you realize that your parents are people too, but I think it makes me admire them even more. For everything that they’ve accomplished together and seperately, all while raising children.

Because of their dedication to their love and marriage, I know that it will not be fun all the time and a lot of work goes into maintaining a healthy relationship. You won’t like them all the time and there will be times you might want your space, but you made a promise to each other to stay and not give up.

Because you love each other.

One day, I’ll get married and I hope to show my children– just as you should yours– how to love.
