10 Oct A Style Lesson Courtesy of Steve Jobs
I enjoyed creating 5 Style Lessons Courtesy of Lauren Conrad and decided to make it a weekly series. I had someone else picked out for today but I was on the train back home last night when I read (on my iPhone, so fitting) that Steve Jobs passed away.And I couldn’t not address it here considering how much time my MacBook and I spend together.
I, along with the rest of the world it seemed like, watched online as Steve Jobs unveiled what I thought would be the iPhone 5 but was the iPhone 4S. That alone speaks the brand, he created. Actually, it’s more than a brand, Apple has become a way of life. It’s changedour lives and how we communicate with each other.
If it isn’t evident by now, I think style is (and should be) a very personal thing that gives you a peek into the person wearing the clothes. Steve Jobs’ style taught us one very important thing.
Just Be Yourself
Steve Jobs has had the same ‘uniform’ if you will for the past 20 years it seems like. Mock black turtleneck tucked into 501 Levis jeans, and New Balance Sneakers.
Sometimes I feel like we look to clothing labels to define who we are like they stay something about us besides what we can afford (and maybe that’s the point) but are against labels any other time. It’s just nice to see someone do their own thing consistently.
He showed us, hey, it’s cool to be your own person. Don’t let someone (or your position in life) dictate what your style should be. Get dressed for yourself.
When I got the AP alert about Steve Jobs’ passing, I felt a loss as if I had known he and his family personally.I don’t know where I would be without my laptop. Before this one, I had two that together didn’t last as long as this one. This computer was a Christmas gift my senior year of college so I wouldn’t have to spend so much time in the video editing lab.Little did I know how much this baby would come in handy.
Steve Jobs made technology sleek, sophisticated and appealing to a girly girl like me and not at all scary.It’s so ironic that Wednesday, I had watched his now infamous commencement speech at Stanford in 2005. I watch it from time to time, when I need inspiration, encouragement or for a reminder not to give up and I feel like it’s the best lessons that Mr. Jobs left.
Not only were they a testament to his life, but he was living every day like that.
