5 Style Lessons Courtesy of House of Consignment

5 Style Lessons Courtesy of House of Consignment

VH1 is really feeling the void of the STYLE Channel (remember that channel? When Elizabeth Hassleback was cute?) and their fashion programming, wouldn’t you say? Styled by June on Mondays and House of Consignment tonight.
I actually really like this show. I love Corri’s business concept eDrop-Off and her team is hard working and funny. The third episode will air tonight at 10pm but two episodes have already aired and with those we can learn, yup, you guessed it, five style lessons.

1. Buy Things That Are Versatile
In the very first episode, we watch Corri and Nicole do a closet clean-out for a woman who literally have like 10 of the same pairs of shoes. ‘Those are my winter flats, my everyday flats,’ the client said to justify her purchases. Instead of buying pieces that are one trick ponies, Corri suggests purchasing pieces that allow you to get a little more bang for your buck.

2. Don’t Buy A Label, Know Quality

In the second episode, Corri has the interviewees for the e-tern position try to spot fake designer handbags. One girl couldn’t even though she was carrying the real version of the same bag on her arm. If you don’t why the quality sets the designer item a part you really are just buying into a label.

3. Get Your Closet Down To Things You’re Going To Wear

It sounds like a simple concept, yes? Except in the second episode Corri and Nicole are on one of their closet clean-outs for a client, and they’re were a few pieces that Vicki (the client) wanted to hold on to even though it was clear that she had no business wearing them. Do you really wear everything in your closet?

4. Don’t Buy One Item Multiple Times

You know that saying: when you love something, buy it in every color? Not according to Corri, you don’t. When you start wearing the same items in different colors, your outfits start to look the same, Corri told Vicki while they were cleaning out her closet in episode two.

5. Don’t Hold On To Things

Once you purge your closet in number three, don’t hold on to the items for a rainy day. Like Corri said after they cleaned out Vicki’s closet: ‘They are things. Beautiful things, but they are things. You can’t take them with you, so you might as well cash them in for something you’ll actually enjoy.’ While that last bit was a well-deserved plug for her business. She has a point. Wouldn’t you say?
