05 Sep 5 Style Lessons Courtesy of Beyonce
Here on The City, we are all about cultivating personal style, luckily, we can look to some of our favorite celebrities for a few style lessons.
To be totally honest, I don’t think Beyonce is particularly stylish. I think she is beautiful, yes. Great skin? Most definitely. Hair? Usually on point. But her style to me has always seemed a bit… off.
That’s not a diss Beehive, so stand down. I just never thought that we could ever really get a sense of who she was through her style. But yesterday, there were number galleries of pictures wishing King Bey a ‘Happy Birthday’ and she does have a certain look to her.
While she isn’t the uber stylish without trying Solange, there are a few things that we can from her style. Five in particular.
1. Get Me Bodied
Beyonce has curves for days. And she shows them off, as she should. Well, I don’t know if she’s showing them off or playing them up with her choice of clothing but either way, it looks good. I know people probably get tired of reading/hearing dress for your shape but dress for your shape dang it! It makes all the difference.
2. Deja Vu
If it’s broke, don’t fix it. There is a reason the Beyonce sticks to the same silhouettes and shiny leotards. They work. There isn’t anything wrong with having a ‘uniform,’ if you will, as long as it flatters your shape.
3. Upgrade You
I am a firm believer that accessories make the outfit. Whatever your budget, try to buy the best quality of what you can afford. A nice coat, bag, shoes and maybe a few pieces of jewelry to mix in with your costume pieces. Upgrades the whole look, I promise.
4. If I Were A Boy
This is my far my favorite tip of the bunch. Add a masculine element to your outfit. A pair of slacks, a bow tie, your man’s shirt. I love it. How cute is it that Beyonce is always supporting Jay-Z’s ventures with her outfits. That Brooklyn ring, her Brooklyn Nets t-shirt that she’s wearing splashed all over the Internet in with that red cup? So cute, right?
5. Diva
Back when I had my Blackberry, my BBM status thingy–remember what I’m talking about? Would always be, “What you say? She ain’t no diiiiiiiiva?!” I live for this song. Chase your dreams and enjoy getting dressed to do so. There is nothing wrong with being a little bit over the top, if that’s who you are. So, throw on an extra bangle for me. 🙂

Wait! Before you go, let me ask you something. Would you let your boyfriend dress you? What about clean out your closet? For as off as Beyonce can be sometimes, I respect her for staying true to herself and Jay-Z for loving her as she is. Kim Kardashian is so busy trying to be ‘down’ that she is walking around looking like this.
