When I think of New York designers who are key in creating the ‘look’ that New Yorkers have come to be known for, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Kate Spade and Nicole Miller come to mind. I’m sure you can imagine how much I freaked out when I read the email that said I would be visiting Nicole Miller’s store with the American Express cardholders for a shopping event with the designer. Oh, shopping at Nicole Miller? With Nicole Miller?

No biggie.

But wait, before I get to the good stuff. I need you to know that prior to be chauffeured to Nicole Miller, I was having lunch in the Hearst Tower with Harper’s Bazaar editors learning all about ShopBazaar.com. Seated at my table was the editor who heads the site up: Megan Reynolds, merchandising editor at the magazine. So, when we get to Nicole Miller’s store, Nicole and Megan had a Q+A with us as Nicole’s latest collection was modeled.

Afterwards, I took the opportunity to introduce myself to Nicole and ask as a new New Yorker, what pieces I need in my wardrobe to look the part. Her answer?

1. A Little Black Dress (but I don’t wear black often, so I like this)

2. Leather Leggings

3. Cool Jacket

4. Wedge Boots—extra points if they have grippies on the bottom

5. A Good Blowout Place
