True story, it is freaking expensive to live in New York. If you breathe too loud, it will cost you. If you buy anything in a tourist-ridden area, it will cost you double. When I think of what I’m paying in rent compared to what something like this would cost back home, I could cry.

The saving grace?

This is New York City.

You’re paying for the experience. You’re paying the people who you will interact with. Many of whom are interesting and the variety of people you encounter in a two block radius might be unheard of somewhere else. Depending on you’re career field, you’re paying to be somewhere you can learn and grow among the best. One thing I’ve noticed, people who’s kids have up and moved to the city? There’s a certain sense of pride. Like, my kid is brave. New York won’t chew my kid up–hopefully.

And besides all that, what other city could you visit the Tiffany’s that Breakfast at Tiffany’s was shot at, and have not breakfast, but a cupcake? The modern girl doesn’t have time to get up in the morning and trek over to 5th Avenue to have her coffee and croissant. No, she has to remember to stuff her flats in her bag, coffee in hand while she runs to the train to get to work on time. She can however, shove Vogue in her bag, grab a cupcake and a enjoy both as she strolls home from work.

Perhaps take in windows created especially for The Great Gatsby?  It might not be much, but sometimes, that’s all you need. Vogue, a cupcake and Tiffany’s.
