What Would You Do?

What Would You Do?

I need some time management skills.

Either that or get used to not sleeping. I’m so tired I could put my head down at my desk and sleep. I haven’t had a nap, an intentional nap, since I’ve moved to New York. There aren’t enough hours in the day for all the things I want to do.

Did you see Oprah’s Next Chapter with Jaime Foxx? He said something that really resonated with me. He was scared that he wouldn’t get to do all the ideas he has floating around before he died and I feel that.

I want to take a cooking class. I want to take a TV writing class. I want to sit in the park and read. Shoot, I want do my outfit pictures on a regular basis (#BloggerFail). I want to switch my WordPress theme. I want to figure out why my italics don’t show up once the post is published (that really bothers me). I want finish the three books that I’ve been going back in forth between depending on my mood. I want to call people back when I say I will. I want to master Photoshop.

Side note, did you guys see The Great Gatsby? There was this cute scene straight from the book, where that skank Daisy is like, “I wish I done everything on earth with you,” isn’t that the sweetest thing ever?

…Too bad she’s a skank.

Anyway, Holla at a G’. I need some time management tips. What works for you? If time grew on trees and you couldn’t fail, what would you do?

I think every driven person goes through what you go through on a daily basis! Even with an assistant you still have to be intentional about accomplishing everything. I’d say write down everything you want to do and assign yourself one task a month (depending how large it is, give yourself a few months to get it done). NO EXCUSES! I do this and though I’m still trying to make it down my list, it’s working! Between working in corporate, wrtiting, and photography I have to enlist my friends to keep me on track sometimes. We’ll say…ok, in [Insert Month] we’re going to Kings Dominion or the beach for a getaway and let’s go ahead and get our tickets. If you’re like me…you HATE to waste money! haha Since your plans are virtually in stone, you’ll be more apt to do it! Take a look at your planner and set aside an afternoon or evening where you start researching and jotting things down! Hope this LENGTHY reply help! <3

You said a mouthful here: “Be intentional about accomplishing everything.” I’m actually going to do this with all of the activities that I want to do this summer, I’m going to make an excel sheet with all of the things I want to do this. I’m also going to get back in the habit of setting intentions for the day (and sticking to it). Thanks, Joc, this certainly did help!

I know exactly how you feel. I felt the same way when I moved to Chicago, now I’m in a little funk, where sleeping is all that I do when I have some free time. I say, do what you love, but also take time to pamper/love-on yourself.

SN: LOL @ Daisy’s skank status! I agree…can’t stand ole girl!

Daisy is so annoying! I’m so mad that she couldn’t appreciate Gatsby 🙁

But yes, I’m trying not to sleep all the time when I get a free moment, but I can’t lie, it’s tempting!

Everything is still relatively new for you; so many life changing experiences all at once (new job, new city, new place to live, comforts of an established home to having to set-up complete new surroundings). You know I operate by my “to do” lists and prioritize that list and I still keep track of everything and everybody with my monthly calendar where I can visually see what I need to do and when!!

You’re right! There is no reason that I should have to have everything all figure out, when I just got here. Everything will fall into place in time.

First you are adorbz in this outfit and your bun looks cayute! But I tend to feel overwhelmed with all need to get done so i make a master plan. I use an old fashioned agenda to write down everything I have to do whether it’s study, write, go to the store, etc. Then I back it up with the calendar on my iphone so I have no excuse to not know I was supposed to do that.

I think if I had time I would actually stop smell the roses. Cliche I know but I mean I would just take in more of my surroundings and really enjoy the beauty of Life.

      Thanks Reny!

It’s time to bring back the old-fashioned agenda! Because you’re right, between that and my iPhone there is no reason I shouldn’t be on schedule.

My goal this week is to be in the moment. To take time to smell the roses, we rush through life and for what?

I set tasks and give them a time frame. If I am not completed in that time frame I have to come back to it. This method has really worked well for me. I plan my day down to the minute. It really gives you a sense of accomplishment. What I have found is the time is really there we just don’t use it wisely!

Oh, I like that, set time frames and move on once the time is up. Thanks, Mimi, I think you’re  right, I have time I’m just not using it wisely.

Thank you, Nika! I’ve been using my iPhone calendar, but I think I’m going to bring back writing in my agenda.

I think I’m just going to hire a life intern! Time management is one of my worst enemies sometimes, but if I had the time I’d be learning Italian and French, becoming a pro gamer, being a better blogger, getting better at photoshop, finding a better blog theme and actually putting away all my clothes after doing laundry. BUT if there’s one thing I’ve learned from being a New Yorker- naps really are a commodity! There’s some days I let my phone die and won’t charge it until a sufficient nap has been had!
    PS. Loving the jacket!

You can have a life intern?? Is that a thing?? Listen, putting away your clothes after doing laundry is a REAL struggle. I do like the idea of letting my phone die, and taking a nap, considering that it happens so much!

I say we all do the things that we’ve wanted to do. And hold the other one accountable.

      Thanks, it’s from Forever!

First, super cute outfit! Second, I think everyone needs time management skills! I feel the exact same way! But I am getting better. Do you have a calendar? Not a iPhone calendar either…Lol…A real one. A calendar helps me out a lot even if I don’t get to everything single thing that I schedule (I am mainly referring to my blog and personal goals I have set for myself). But writing things you want to down helps a lot. Third,
I’ve been trying to start a novel for the longest but I have way too many ideas and I have no idea where to start, so I feel you trying to get things done before its too late (referring to the Jamie Foxx comment). But you’ll get into your groove soon! No worries!

Thank you, Kel! So, I do have a calendar, a really cute one that I could carry around in my bag. BUT, I need to go get a refill, so maybe I’ll do that and it will help me get my life together. Perhaps you could write a little bit every night? Or consistently for five minutes a day? It sounds like only a little bit but that little bit adds up!

It’s such a good idea to use an agenda. I still use one and it helps me see everything I want to get done. And when I don’t complete an assignment, I keep writing it for the next day until I get sick of seeing it. Believe me, it will help you out.

Ugh, I think I might have to try the writing it until the next day bit, I bet that will make me get it done!

I’m too in love with your jacket. As for time management tips – detailed to-do lists really work. That and also, computer apps that block out distracting sites while you’re working.
