I can count on one hand all the times I’ve been to Brooklyn and each of those times was with a plan in motion. I’ve never had the time–or a tour guide–to show me Biggie’s borough.

That all changed Sunday afternoon when I accepted an invitation for brunch at Piquant (I already had the perfect outfit in mind). In my mind, this was a trek, one that I turned my nose up to in group chats with my friends. “Girl, it’s Brooklyn, not Africa,” Arianna would tell me of the commute. I’d gotten spoiled with all the quick access living in the city provides. But brunch sounded cute and so is my tour guide so I hopped on the 6 to transfer to the 4 to take me to Atlantic-Avenue/Barclays Center.

I made it in one piece. I’m not going to lie, when I walked up the stairs and ended up in front of Jay Z’s Barclay’s stadium, I was mighty impressed. There was a Starbucks and a Target and a gorgeous clock tower converted into condos that I wouldn’t mind calling home… and a welcome wagon.

I think Brooklyn was excited to see me too because a man, who could clearly see that I was on the phone, was insistent on talking to me. Interestingly enough, I can’t stop talking about how cute Brooklyn is–not even for the picture below. I even told my friends in that same group chat that I could see myself living there with a family… no time soon, obvi. But between all of the community gardens (where these pictures were taken), unconventional looking families and mom & pop coffee shops, that might not be too far-fetched.

Channing in the Brownstone, they responded. I’m not opposed to spreading the love, that is the Brooklyn way, right?
