Dear New York, My Heart is Full

I love this city, I hate it sometimes, too. In an effort to keep track of my feelings about the Big Apple during my time here I try my best to chronicle them in a letter to this crazy place. Welcome to Dear New York–a series posted monthly on the anniversary of the date I moved here.

I have so much to be thankful for. So. Much.

I am grateful for the chance to reflect on all of it in my parent’s TV room in my Penn State football basketball shorts and pink hoodie. And I don’t feel like I’m missing anything.

Last week I toured New York City with Ford while we learned about future social trends we can expect to see take shape. More than one trend revolved around the idea that social media is slowing killing our society. If you aren’t seeking validation from it (which, whew lawd, is a beast on its own), our social feeds are making us feel like we’re constantly missing out. And, the thing is, in New York City, where there is literally a million things to do, it’s possible to miss out on something that you would actually like to do. It’s a really tiring way to live. I’m thankful for a break–from it all.

So, I’m grateful to sit on this couch in my shorts, catching up on shows, and talking to my friends in group chat. I’m thankful for those girls. Girls who will encourage me, inspire me, feed me, uplift me, fight for me, be ratchet with me, tell me when I’m out of line and most importantly, remind me that in all things, I am not alone.

And you guise, for coming back even when I’ve left my blog alone for weeks. I’m going to get my blogging life together, I promise. I have a vision for 2014.

New York, my heart is so full. Thank you.

How was your Thanksgiving? What are you thankful for?

I believe engineering just causes it to be worse. Now there’s a channel to hardly ever care, now there wouldn’t be a prospect for them to discover.
