I am really trying to take advantage of all the fun, cool experiences that New York has to offer. So when one of my friends asked me if I was down to go on a Grouper–a social club that sets up drinks between 2 groups of friends: 3 guys and 3 girls–I said yes. Justine did, too.

This is the thing about getting dressed for, I guess, this would could count as a date. I am a theme-dresser. Always have been. So in my mind, a date means something super romantical but still fun and well, me.

This translated to a Rodarte for Target dress, an Old Navy camp jacket and green suede booties. ‘Cept it was cold. Like really cold. I added a cropped sweater and over-the-knee socks. A good representation of me in an outfit, if I may say so myself.

Because this was my first Grouper (and blind date, ever) I wasn’t sure what to expect.

I have an irrational fear of wasting an outfit, especially if it wasn’t photographed for the blog at least, so I hoped this wouldn’t be a disappointment.

Three girls walk into a bar… actually, two, because one of us was on time, in search of a good time.

Not that I expected the men we were meeting to appreciate my whimsical outfit but they were… different. Unless you love Buffy, Angel or Game of Thrones. Though, I have to say, after a few drinks, it didn’t matter that only two men showed up instead of three, or that they were 4 years younger.

We had fun and I learned to let my guard down and be open to a good New York time. It didn’t hurt that my skirt gave me a little something extra to twirl as I started the conga line. #DareAccepted, Grouper!
