How to wear leather in the summer

24

I don’t have time to drop off my laundry.

I don’t have time to Tweet.

I don’t have time to go grocery shopping.

I don’t have time… blah, blah, we get it, you’re busy. Good for you.

If you let me tell it, I literally don’t have time to do anything. Breathing would be a stretch. But if I were to actually examine what exactly I’m doing with my 24 hours, I bet it would read a little something like this:

7:00 a.m. Alarm goes off. Must. Not. Be. Late.

7:30 a.m. Finally open my eyes. I scroll through Feedly to get the fashion headlines for the day to send my news pitches to my managing editor. Sh*t! Is that Lupita on Vogue?!

7:35 a.m. Fire off an email with my pitches. Pulling my laptop closer, I begin to read Lupita’s cover story so I can start my post.

8:15 a.m I just finished the post! Now, it’s time to size the photo, add the SEO hacks and links before sending the WordPress link to my M.E.

8:30 a.m. I head to the shower. I’m supposed to be at the Delacorte Theater at 9 a.m. for a behind the scenes look at Shakespheare in the Park.

9:15 a.m. I’m actually proud of myself. Showered, dressed, and out of the my apartment, I fling my arm up at the first cab I see. 81st and Central Park West, please!

9:27 a.m. The cab starts to slow down as I dig in my bag for my red lipstick. I forgot to put on mascara, so I need a little umph. Checking my reflection in my iPhone, I climb out of the cab. Is this rain I feel??

9:33 a.m. Yeah, it’s raining. No theater in sight. How deep into this park am I supposed to go?

9:45 a.m. Send frantic email to the PR girl. I don’t want to miss the event but I’m beyond late now. She’s forgiving and sends someone to fetch me.

9:55 a.m. Isabel finds me! She’s went to Penn State, too! We Are…

10:03 a.m. Isabel shoos me into the group seated around the set of Much Ado About Nothing.

10:07 a.m. … “And they’re just pouring buckets of blood on him at this point,” er, what? Costume Master Luke McDonough is giving away theater secrets.

10:50 a.m. Head back to the office. I need a cup of coffee. Like, ASAP.

11:45 a.m Now it’s time to start writing news roundup with the links of major headlines I’ve been emailing myself all morning.

12:35 p.m. “Who want’s Chiptole?” my coworker asker. Um, I always do.

How to wear leather in the summer

1:20 p.m. Back at my desk, I scarf lunch and try to finish my news roundup. it’s almost time to interview the new face of Zyrtec, Debra Messing.

2:01 p.m. Hmm, no Debra Messing. Refreshes email.

2:06 p.m. Refreshes email.

2:10 p.m. Calls phone from conference phone

2:12 p.m. Hmm. I’ll email PR Girl check to make sure she has the right number.

2:20 p.m. Ah! The phone is ringing! We have contact!

2:35 p.m. Debra is so cool and down to earth. I’m pleased with my interview.

2:37 p.m. Finally back to finishing style scoop at my desk.

2:50 p.m. I should schedule some tweets

3:00 p.m. Send off interview to be transcribed. Thank you, interns. Transcribing might literally be the worst part of being a writer.

4:00 p.m. I’m going to the Hamptons tomorrow with C.Wonder and Birchbox, so I have to get everything finished that would need to be done tomorrow.

How to wear leather in the summer

6:45 p.m. I did it! I finished the majority of my work. I can leave now.

7:00 p.m. Pack up big Bertha (my work laptop) to bring her home.

7:10 p.m. Walk out of the office and head to the NQR. Get on the N, pretend not to eavesdrop on the convo next to me comparing living on the east side to the west side.

7:20 p.m. Switch for the 6 at 59th/Lexington. It doesn’t suck today. I love when I miss rush hour.

7:35 p.m. When I get out of the train station, I just about skip home, it’s so nice. I’m going to reheat Thai while I bang out the rest of this work.

7:40 p.m. Check mail, package slip. Did I order something??

7:45 p.m. What the eff is that huge box in front of my door?? My loveseat from Ones Kings Lane!

7:48 p.m. Great. I ripped my dress pushing box into door.

7:55 p.m. Strip out of the now damaged dress to get to work putting the legs on this thing. Someone asked what was favorite part about my apartment. Definitely that I put everything together myself.

How to wear leather in the summer

8:05 p.m. Time to remind myself that I am capable.

8:20 p.m. I always flex after I put something together. And then I realize how silly I look and take pictures to send to my mom.

8:35 p.m. Reheat thai. Crack open Bertha. Have dinner as I work on my new settee.

9:00 p.m. Turn on the Real Housewives of New York for background noise.

10:00 p.m. Still working.

10:45 p.m. … and working.

11:15 p.m. Okay, that’s enough. Time to shut Bertha. I can do the rest tomorrow. I just really need to go to sleep.

11:30 p.m. Clarisonic face, move the box and trash to the door, apply new Yes to Tomatoes acne mask.

11:45 p.m. Climb in the bed. Reach for my laptop to start to write a post for Channing in the City. Hit save. Not happenin’ tonight. There is nothing left to say.

How to wear leather in the summer

11:50 p.m. Reach for phone to write my gratitude list.

12:00 a.m. Shut eyes.

So, this actually makes me seem busy. I suppose I could make a joke about the day flying by in a New York minute (considering the Empire State building making an appearance). I also failed to mention how many times I read my group chat or scroll through Instagram, hehe.

If you took note of how you spent your 24 hours, what would surprise you the most?

Loooove this look! I love putting my own furniture together too. Is it weird that I sometimes look forward to and purposely don’t solicit help? I think the one thing that would surprise me about how I spend my day is the amount of time I spend scrolling through IG. I keep telling myself to cut back on it, but the struggle is real!

No! I do that, too. It makes me feel really good as a woman. Hehe, not weird at all! The struggle is SO real.

I absolutely love this look! I have realized that I scroll through Facebook and IG way too much. It’s ridiculous. I have never been so tied to my phone until I upgraded.

    The Absent Game

Amongst me and my husband we have owned additional MP3 players over time than I can count, which includes Sansas, iRivers, iPods (common & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few many years I’ve settled down to one line of players.
