Here on The City, we are all about cultivating personal style, luckily, we can look to some of our favorite celebrities for a few style lessons.
We are coming up on the end of New York Fashion Week, and I thought it would be fun to use actual shows for this week's 'Style Lessons' instead of a celebrity.

From the looks of the collections show during NYFW next Fall/Winter seasons are going to be quite fun and rather whimsical. I'm exciiiited.

But for now, we can look to five collections my favorite designers showed for 5 style lessons that we can apply now to use well into the Fall season.
1. Don't Save Clothes For 'Special Occasions'

Betsey Johnson makes everyday a party and her clothing is right there with her. Do you make a habit of 'saving' clothing? My father is like that. He 'saves' things so long it's out of style. Don't wait for an outing as an excuse to look nice. You should enjoy getting dressed and your wardrobe.
2. Mix And Match With Reckless Abandon

Well, maybe not reckless abandon, but J.Crew makes you want forget the rules! Have fun. Don't the outfits about look interesting with all the mixing and matching? Not just in terms of prints, but textures and colors, too.
3. Being A Lady Is Always In Style

Tory Burch is for the girl who like elegance and delicate clothing. I'm all for bringing ladylike back: wholesome hemlines, coats that give me church vibes and soft textures. I like it, it makes me want to look like a proper lady. What about you?
4. Black Never Fails

DKNY is such a New York brand to me. And so is black. But for a good reason. It never fails to work for any and every occasion. I need to up my wardrobe when it comes to the amount of black I owe. What's your black stash like?
5. Mix The High With The Low

I love, love, love Rebecca Minkoff. She is the epitome of edgy, downtown girl. She wears amazing accessories and layers like a pro. I always aspire to look like I have a good mix of high versus low on. I realize the irony of this consider Rebecca Minkoff is a designer brand. But you catch my drift.

So those were some of my favorite shows. It was really hard to only pick five. I also loved Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta. What shows were your favorite?

This is my second time recently hearing the advice "don't save your nice clothes only for special occasions" maybe I need to listen lol.

You should! No one's saying go play basketball in sequins, but it couldn't hurt to want to look special everyday, right?

Great lessons. I am definitely a saver, and I am working on not doing that. I just hate wasting a good outfit on nothing...then an occasion comes along and I have nothing to wear LOL!

J. Crew knocks my socks off every time.

Ugh, me too! Although, I have gotten in the habit of re-wearing an outfit that was wasted or unphotographed, LOL!
