We All Get Dressed For Bill

We All Get Dressed For Bill

On Saturday while the world seemed to be obsessed with Zombies and earthquakes that would mark the end of the world, my mother ventured to an indie theater to see Bill Cunningham New York.

The documentary provided a peek into the mind of the man behind the camera shooting photos for The New York Times Sunday Styles ‘On The Street’ column.

I can’t tell you how many of Bill’s columns I have cut up in put in my Inspiration Book to try to recreate the looks! So obviously, I needed to try something a little daring to see the documentary.

Banana Republic Paper Bag Skirt
Enzo Angiolini Suede Booties

Like bold lips! After looking at this picture, I wish I would have gone with nude platform sandals, but my toes weren’t done 🙁  My nails are swatched a bunch of colors that I forgot to remove, hence why they are in my pockets.

But back to Bill.

I often wondered if he realizes what an impact he’s had on fashion and street style. I don’t think he does, he just likes taking pictures of fashionable women. He’s so simple with what he wears and likes in his own life, it’s almost an oxymoron to be obsessed with something like fashion.

The fashion world though, understands his impact, Anna Wintour summed it up best in the film, “We all get dressed for Bill.”

Wouldn’t you just die if Bill rode by on his bicycle snapping your picture? It’s not just his appreciation of a stylish woman, but how he has managed to capture the voice of the people or the history of fashion that makes him such a wonder but  he actually appreciates fashion for what it is– wearable art.

“Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life,” said Bill Cunningham.

I loved this documentary and if you have the chance you really should try and see it when it comes to your town. Click here for info.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!
