5 Styles Courtesy of Adele

5 Styles Courtesy of Adele

Here on The City, we are all about cultivating personal style, luckily, we can look to some of our favorite celebrities for a few style lessons.

Oh, Adele. When you released 21, I swore your were poking around in my journal. She’s gotten me through some things, let me tell you. I can’t remember the first time that I saw her but I do remember loving her understated glamour.

She’s such a lay-dee (in my British accent). Did you watch her special with Matt Lauer on NBC on Sunday? Isn’t she a refreshing delight in a world of bodycon dresses and overexposed celebrities? As I watched her special, I realized that they are five style lessons we can all learn from the regal singer.

1. Be A Girl.
It’s Okay.I promise. Adele embraces all things girly: with her clothing, her nails, those lashes. Gosh, the lashes. Everything screams, ‘Hiiii, I’m a lay-dee’ (last time doing that accent, I promise). Have we even seen her in pants? Isn’t it refreshing?

2. Be Consistent.

Adele knows what works for her body and she sticks to it. She’s quite fond of feminine silhouettes that flatter her figure. It’s so nice in a sea of bodycon to see a nice form-fitting dress that leaves something to the imagination. And though she’s always in black, she has fun with it. Trying out different textures but while staying true to her style.

3. Embrace Your Body.

Adele doesn’t let anyone push their body issues on her. She embraces who she is. Remember when Karl Lagerfeld said that she was ‘too fat for Chanel?’ And she basically gave him the middle finger. To apologize he sent her a boat load of Chanel bags. Nice gesture, I’d say. But, as long as you are healthy, embrace your body.

4. Go Big Or Go Home.
I swear, Adele must wear like three pairs of falsies. Aren’t her lashes justeverything? And those stiletto nails? They never look scary or freakish on her, just a nice edgy touch. Now, the hair. Adele’s hair is so big it makes people in Texas jealous. Isn’t she glamourous?

5. You Are Enough.

You don’t have to be something (or wear something) that doesn’t align with who you are. Adele isn’t running around the stage in sparkly onesies doing high kicks (no shade) because that doesn’t work for her (and, she can sing, but again, no shade). She stays in her lane. It isn’t always a bad thing to do so. Wouldn’t you say? The same can be said for style.

What do you think of Adele’s style? Isn’t it refreshing? Who want’s to help me bring ladylike back?
