Dear New York, You’re So Easy

Dear New York, You’re So Easy

I love this city, I hate it sometimes, too. In an effort to keep track of my feelings about the Big Apple during my time here I try my best to chronicle them in a letter to this crazy place. Welcome to Dear New York–a series posted monthly on the anniversary of the date I moved here.

Hi Bae,

I know that I give you a hard time a lot. Yeah, I wish your manners weren’t practically nonexistent and that you understood personal space, but Sundays with you are shaping up to a really amazing part of my weekend.

I could never quite put my finger on it, but in my new apartment, weekends just feel different. Better. Originally, I chalked it to being able to make my coffee without wearing pants or that when I wake up I can go pee and actually flush the toilet without fearing waking someone.

I love my trips to 7/11—oh, haiii Beyonce    —on my corner to get the New York Times (the only day I refuse to read it online) and then to the bodega to get flowers for the week.

That’s not the only thing, New York.

I never understood the importance of a bodega. In my last apartment, the ones closest to me didn’t look like they had the cleanliest of standards and the men always looked like they were undressing me with their eyes so I just bought my ramen elsewhere.

But now? I buy sandwiches at the deli, flowers, and speak to the cashier when I stock up on Cup O’Noodles.

Like the lady at my laundry mat, he asks where I’ve been when he hasn’t seen me in a while. I feel like I’m really making a home for myself here. Especially after I’ve done my Sunday morning errands and can take my pants off once I’m back in the comforts of my apartment.

The streets are so quiet on the weekends. Saturday and Sunday nights, specifically. It’s like you know the ruckus you make with all the ambulances, Bobby Schmurda, little kids playing football in the field across the street and decided to give me a break.

I appreciate it. I do.

New York, who would have guessed that you could ever be so easy like Sunday mornings?

Do you have a Sunday morning routine? What’s your favorite part of the weekend?

I love this overall look. I love the big chunky-neck sweater. Sundays I work, but I like Saturdays when I don’t have anything planned so that I can watch the cooking channel.

Thank you! It’s so cozy, it’s like wearing a comforter in public. I need to start watching the cooking channel to get some dinner ideas.
