Serendipity

Serendipity

Over drinks the other night, my friends and I were talking about whether we believed in fate.

I do.

I think that everything that happens is leading up to something. It all will make sense in the end if you trust the process.

Take me and _____.

We met six years ago in a H&M. I had an internship with Clear Channel Radio—now iHeartRadio—in their Online Programming department and was staying at a NYU dorm on 8th Street and Fifth Avenue. I liked exploring Union Square and more often than not, ended up in a H&M on 18th and Fifth.

He was passing through to the men’s section upstairs, I was browsing the racks. He complimented the exact shade of blue I was wearing. I thought that was weird but liked that he was in a suit and carrying a briefcase. We exchanged numbers. Nothing really came of it until I moved to the city.

New York is so poetic. Serendipitous, even.

He and I planned to take a Romantic Scene tour of New York City, Valentine’s Day weekend. But, you know, All Star Weekend, New York Fashion Week (so many choices!), we decided to go to Everyday People instead and have a nice dinner afterward.

We took the tour on Saturday. It was really special to me to be able to experience the locations of some of New York’s most romantic movie scenes: When Harry Met Sally…, Manhattan, You’ve Got Mail, Breakfast at Tiffany’s—there were even a few Sex and the City hot spots!

As we rode past the iconic places, we watched the actual movie scenes unfold on the small screen, played a version of The NewlyWed Game and marveled over facts about New York provided by our tour guide, Sarah.

After listening to stories about some of greatest love stories set in New York City, we hopped off the bus, said our goodbyes to Sarah, and _____ decided that he wanted to replace a black sweatshirt.

Here’s where our little love story took a interesting turn.

Guess which store was the closest? The H&M that brought us together. I hadn’t been in that particular one since we met.

See? Serendipitous. Like something that could happen in a Nora Ephron (we saw her apartment building, btw!) movie.

Thank you, On Location Tours, for such a poetic Saturday.

Do you believe in Serendipity? What’s your favorite romantic scene set in New York?

Great photos of NYC! I’d love to do a neighborhood tour when it’s warmer.

OMG! Thank you! I can’t believe I didn’t catch that. Six years ago, yikes (I’m officially old).
