Still

Still

I’m not good at sitting down.

Or being still.

I make fun of my mother all the time for being the same way. She’s always moving. Always fixing something, it’s always something with that lady.

When I first moved into my apartment (and even now, she thinks I don’t notice but I do) if I leave something sit for too long–I’m in a studio, I like things to be stored a certain way, since I don’t have any space and will probably have to look at it–she attacks it.

I am my mother’s child.

I am constantly fidgeting, fighting with my iPhone calendar reminders, trying to hit all my deadlines and slowly exhale, counting to ten at my day job. Jesus give me strength.

There is just so much that I want to do all the time.

Coincidently, it was a trip to Shelter Island that put me on pause.

I had driven up to Long Island with Angel and Ford in a sexy red Mustang on a mission to unplug courtesy of Jonathan Adler. He’d mapped out his favorite destinations and Shelter Island was on that list.

I know now it’s because of his beautiful beach vacation home (deets soon!) but also because of the ability to unplug on the island. You’re literally forced to.

I barely had cell phone service. The kitchens in the restaurants in town closed at 9:30pm. When we called around inquiring about brunches, we were told to call back in an hour and see what was happening then—at that point it was already 11am.

There wasn’t anything on our agenda other than lunching at the Adler-Doonan home. Well, the fireworks. Everyone in town made sure we knew that they were happening on the beach down the hill from our bed and breakfast. From the people we met at the general store to the girls at the pool.

I sat still on the beach, waiting for the fireworks to start, sipping my Rosè.

Finally, I didn’t fight sitting still. It felt… nice.

When was the last time you were actually still?

Ugh! I love this post. I find myself always on the go and wondering about what I could, should or didn’t do. It’s so nice to sit still and just be. Love your dress BTW.

Thank you! And it is nice to just sit and be still. We should be better about it and actually schedule time to do so. #selfcare and such.

I like this post. I wish I could see more of that car. It looks sexy. And I think the last time I sat really still is when we were in Central Park. That place is so calming.

It was really sexy! When we were driving up, it got so many looks and men were surprised to see two girls in it! I like sitting in Central Park. We should really do that more often.
